Mark Joseph has over 20 years of experience in teaching mindfulness. He is schooled in eastern as well as western practices, and he is deeply knowledgeable of the science, as well as the different philosophies of mindfulness.
Through his life’s journey Mark came to start exploring the positive impacts of breath work and meditation on his mind state. In the late 1990’s, he spent 4 months in a Himalayan monastery, and then a further 3 years studying advanced mindfulness practices with incredible mentors whilst living in a Buddist temple. After this period, Mark made the decision to re-enter the field of advertising, and that he would in parallel do his best to positively impact mental health where he could.
With his deep knowledge, and personal experience of the power of mindfulness and meditation, Mark developed an 8-week stress reduction workshop. After running these successfully for a number of years, he further evolved this program into an accredited teacher training series which today is fully subscribed. Outside of these programs, Mark facilitates weekend retreats with clients from around the world. He freely shares what he knows, and his empowering style has resulted in many of his students choosing to change their life direction to become fulltime mindfulness or mental health facilitators.
Through the time Mark has spent in the South African bush, the Indian Himalayas, the UK’s Lake and Peak District’s, he has noted the real impact nature has on psychological and physical health. On our wilderness retreat's, he confirms a decrease in participant rumination with an increase in attention capacity, vulnerable engagement, sensory heightening and clear increases in human connection. Through monitoring his own stress levels, including his blood pressure, he has personally observed how these improve in wilderness.
An advertising school graduate Mark spent many years in advertising businesses in both South Africa and London. Prior pursuing his passion fulltime, he was the managing director, and a partner, of a branding solutions company. Mark is today a partner at the company Mindful Revolution whose purpose to improve mental health in large organizations. He holds space particularly well with his corporate clients in that he understands the environment and the pressures under which they operate.
Mark absolutely loves what he does, his enthusiasm is contagious, and he carries himself with an open heart and a light energy. He is an "under cover musician", practices yoga and loves hiking. His family is massively important to him, and he loves spending time with them, ideally in the mountains or the bush.
