Busi Mathe

Busi is an authentic, considerate and empathetic leader who is motivated by maximizing the potential of the people she works with. She has vast leadership experience and through her career has successfully led large teams, across different verticals and with different individual compositions. Having worked in a number of countries abroad, she has come to deeply appreciate personal and business cultural diversity; She clearly remembers the day she returned from New York thinking how she can best utilize this understanding.

Busi leans into what she commits to. Prior to founding her consulting practice Orirori, she was the Chairwoman of the PricewaterhouseCoopers (pwc) South African Governing Board and a member of their African Governance Board. She further led the Africa Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice of pwc for over 5 years. Her absolute commitment to industry was recognized in 2019 by been awarded an Emerging Business Leader by the African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA). In 2020 she was nominated as one of five finalists for the Professional of the Year award in the Big 4 Class of the Commerce, Law and Management Category. In the same year she was also one of seven finalists for the Woman Professional of the Year by the SA Professional Services Awards. Busi is a qualified Chartered Accountant, registered with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is a member of the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.

Busi believes that people are an organizations greatest asset. In her full commitment to the philosophy “lifting as I rise”, she has devoted a significant amount of her time to supporting and mentoring students as well as upcoming talent. In this context she has been deeply involved in pwc’s key talent programs and ABASA’s mentoring program. Busi has further coached and mentored students, as well as young professionals, through partnerships with organizations including YLED and Dreamgirls.

Busi is positive, energetic and laughs easily. She is wise, straight talking, has an eye for detail and is not afraid to ask questions. She has worked through success as well as failure. Busi loves being in the bush, reading, walking, boxing and Pilates. She fondly remembers the anchor figure her grandmother played in her upbringing, and spending time with her family as well close friends is important.

Busi joined one of our retreats needing to create the psychological space to work through her thoughts. She has since invested a significant amount of time working through her “why” and has taken many brave steps on a beautiful journey of self-discovery.
