I hope that this communication finds you well and that you had a wonderful festive season.
2018 has started with pace and we have had an insanely busy couple of weeks. We have been blessed to do some awesome guiding [a huge thank you for your support 😊] in some awesome places. The elephant sightings we have been having along the Letaba River are the best we have had in many years - It is a gift to spend time on foot with these animals. On our last backpacking trail, my group helped clear up, and carry out, plastic bottles that had washed down the river. What really struck me was that not one person complained and all I saw was an incredible enthusiasm to help preserve the integrity of true wild places – Thank you guys! So many of our trail participants are not only really into the experience, but also conservationists at heart.
On that note, if you love wilderness, I think you will enjoy my new blog – Having written so much over the years, both in the wilderness and leadership space, it was time create a home for this. Have peak at The Spirit of Wilderness, a piece of writing I put together that has been published on a few sites.
Spirited Adventures started as an outlet to pursue my passion in 2005. A lot has changed since those days and as the business has grown, it seriously needed modernizing to reflect its evolution. www.visioninja.com undertook awesome work on a full brand refresh that has gone through every aspect of the business including our now super funky hats, caps, t-shirts, mugs, key rings and stickers – Talk to me if you would like to express your identity through your adventure wardrobe 😊. Outside of that I have been kept on my toes by working on some new business development opportunities [all referrals are welcome 😊), conceptualising some new lifestyle trails, talking about new mentorship opportunities and we have a number of discussions [locally and abroad] with regards our team intervention focused on facilitating trust and performance [through Honeyguide Consulting and associates based in SA, UK and Germany].
This past weekend South African mountaineering legend Sean Disney, the owner of Adventure Dynamics, and I guided a fairly adventurous kloofing trip. The group comprised mostly consultants and Chartered Accountants, in very successful roles at various big firms. I was struck by their excited, engaged, enthusiasm to do more of what we do – As we progressed I could see how the experience, which was challenging, developed their relationships. All of them felt that they missed these magical experiences in their lives. Although it requires huge discipline to juggle business ownership and guiding, I am truly privileged to have spent life pursuing things wild … Sometimes, I should draw on this more and take my own advice to breathe 😊.
Don’t Forget: Our next unsupported GKNP backpacking trails run from 8 March 2018 – 11 March 2018 and then 22 – 25 March 2018 [Thursday to Sunday]. This is true bucket list material! Group sizes are limited to 8 with a minimum group of 5 - If you would prefer your own group, we can run one run one specifically for you.
These trails are particularly targeted at natures lovers who are drawn to the adventure of self-sufficient backpacking in a true big 5 wilderness area. Importantly, of all ecotourism activities they have the lowest eco-footprint. We would love you to join us. References can be checked here and remember that we offer incredible walking safaris from mobile and fixed trails camps too.
We look forward to hearing from you, spending time with you on trail in 2018!
Have a great month and all the very best,
